Social Services Committee

The TAFM refers Tibetans who require special services to the appropriate community agencies. Tibetan and non-Tibetan volunteers help families and individuals as they work through the challenges of adapting to a new culture. It also helps in finding jobs, educational opportunities, and other resources.

The Social Service Committee, despite its limited resources, provides a range of services to the community members, with the help of Board members and volunteers. Mentioned below are a few examples:

· Health services – providing interpretation, visiting patients who are indisposed due to prolonged illnesses, and providing free flu vaccination for Uninsured and Elderly members.

· LAMTON – A Tibetan-to-Tibetan mentoring program for High School students provided by college-bound youths.

· Workshop on Youths and Community Involvement – A program to encourage youth to stay connected to the community.

· Providing necessary assistance to new Tibetan immigrants.

· Assisting families with funeral related services.

· Organizing community functions and meetings.

· Assisting members with filing federal and state tax returns.
