TRADITIONAL PERFORMING ARTS

Traditional Performing Arts Committee strives to preserve and promote traditional Tibetan music and dance. Colorful songs and dances are performed during community gatherings and special occasions, including a visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The TAFM dance group also showcases the Tibetan culture by performing at various venues such as educational institutions and churches. The dance group is a regular feature at the Festival of Nations. TAFM Traditional Performing Arts is among the best of its kind due to its successes over the years. For example, the show “Kipo” (in collaboration with Tiger Lion company) gave an encore and won first place at the Fringe Festival held in Minneapolis. Also, TAFM Traditional Performing Arts placed 2nd at the 2008 North American Tibetan Associations Cultural Dance Competition held at Madison, Wisconsin.
It is a true delight to see young children enjoy learning and performing this rich tradition. In addition to learning very useful skills, the children form a network of lifelong friends.
